Joe Auricchio, CHFM

2017-2018 VSHE President

​

Joe Auricchio is the Assistant Director of Plant Operations at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Joe has spent over 20 years as a leader in the maintenance field. Since 2000, Joe has been in a leadership role in senior living and healthcare settings. Joe became a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) in 2009.

 

In 2013 and 2015, he was the co-winner of the Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers (VSHE) Teamwork Award. He has published two facility management articles in the ‘ASHE Insider’ and ‘Corrrectionsone.com’. Joe is looked to as a leader to help resolve Joint Commission and facility compliance issues at VCUMC. Joe received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in October of 2014. In July 2015, Joe co-presented “The Facility Side of Ebola-Lessons Learned from the 2014 Epidemic” at the annual ASHE conference. Joe is also the current Central District Chairman of the Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers.

Dylan Henderson

2017-2018 VSHE President-Elect

​

With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Dylan brings a unique skillset to healthcare construction. An avid craftsman, Dylan honed his construction skills as a youth working in the field for his father’s general contracting business. With a budding interest in Construction Management, Dylan attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he graduated in 2008 with a BS in Building Construction.

 

After leaving Virginia Tech in 2008 and at the onset of the most recent recession, Dylan went to work for Allstate Insurance as a Field Property Adjuster for their National Catastrophe Team. This experience allowed Dylan to travel to catastrophe locations within the United States and act as a frontline representative for Allstate where he developed a passion for helping those in crisis. After employment with Allstate, Dylan returned home to Roanoke, VA where he spent a brief stint working for an emergency response/insurance restoration contractor as their Lead Construction Manager and Property Adjusting Consultant. Soon thereafter, Dylan accepted a position with Carillion Clinic within their Construction Project Management department where he has worked as a Project Manager for the past 5 years.

 

Dylan enjoys spending time in the outdoors and plays in numerous recreational adult athletic leagues, anchoring many in a leadership role. Residing in Roanoke, VA, Dylan spends many fall Saturdays rooting for his Hokies and working on his home. 

Rick W. Sanders CHFM, CHEP

2017-2018 VSHE Immediate Past President/ASHE Advocacy Chair

 

Rick Sanders currently serves as the Plant Operations Manager/Clinical Support Center at VCU Health. Rick has more than 18 years of experience working in hospitals located in Tennessee, Maryland and now Virginia. Rick is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) through the American Healthcare Association (AHA), Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) through the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers, and maintains a First Grade Engineer License from the State of Maryland.

 

Rick is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served for more than 20 years. In the military, he

specialized in steam propulsion engineering, heating/ventilation/air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R), hydraulics, diesels and cryogenic liquids. Rick graduated from Crichton College, Memphis, TN in 2002. 

 

Rick has previously served as a Co-Chairman for the Western Tennessee Chapter of the Tennessee Healthcare Engineering Association (THEA), Chairman of the Delmarva Regional Healthcare Mutual Aid Group (DRHMAG), and was a State of Maryland – Stationary Engineers Committee Board Member. He also served as an instructor for mechanical propulsion engineering systems at the U. S. Navy Engineering Service School Command in Great Lakes, IL and as a HVAC&R instructor at Worcester-Wicomico Community College, in Salisbury, MD. Rick has been involved with national (ASHE) and area healthcare engineering societies (CASHE – Chesapeake Area and THEA – Tennessee) for over 18 years. In his current role at SRMC, Rick is responsible for construction activities, the Plant Operations and Security departments, and serves as the SRMC Safety Officer. He is responsible for overseeing the Environment of Care and Emergency Management programs for the medical center which serves more than 12,000 inpatients and nearly 200,000 outpatients annually.

​

Rick enjoys spending time with his wife, Cathy, and their two rescued greyhounds; traveling and playing golf.  Rick and Cathy have three adult sons, who live in Arizona, Tennessee and Maryland, and four grandchildren.​

Geoff Pierce, CEM, CBCP

2017-2018 VSHE Secretary

 

Geoff Pierce is the Vice President of EXCEL Energy Consulting.  He currently holds the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers.  With over 40 years’ experience in the heating and air conditioning industry, Geoff has a vast knowledge of service, repair, replacement and upgrades of all kinds of mechanical systems. 

 

Geoff was one of the foundering members in 2006 and has been an active member of VSHE ever since.  He has been serving Healthcare Facilities since 1987.  He is also affiliated with America Hospital Association (AHA), American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Joe Morris

2017-2018 VSHE Treasurer

Joe P. Morris is a Project Manager with Walbridge and has over 42 years of construction experience to his resume. He has been on Healthcare projects for approximately 22 years and has many contacts within the Healthcare Facilities and Design organizations throughout the Tidewater area. Joe has been member of VSHE and ASHE since 2007. He is committed to always improve upon his awareness, knowledge and understanding of the Healthcare construction environment. He has served as VSHE 2010/2011 and current 2015/2016 State Treasurer.

Lynne Manning

2017-2018 VSHE Communications Chair

​

Ms. Manning offers 30 years of professional interior design experience in the institutional, healthcare and senior living markets and holds a B.S. in Interior Design/Textiles from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

 

Ms. Manning has been associated with several national architectural firms in the capacity of Principal and Director of Interior Design. Ms. Manning has held positions as project designer, project manager and lead designer on numerous projects ranging from small renovation projects to multi-million dollar healthcare projects comprising all new stand-alone construction.

 

Ms. Manning’s experience includes developing documents and specifications relative to interior spaces in compliance with applicable building and safety codes, and selecting and specifying fixtures, furnishings, products, materials and colors.

 

Ms. Manning values a collaborative team approach to delivering quality design.

Jerry Baker

2017-2018 VSHE Membership Chair

​

Jerry Baker has 32 years of experience in the construction industry. Jerry learned from the ground up as he began his career working with his father and followed in his footsteps to become a Carpenter by trade. He went on to become a Superintendent then later a Project Manager. Currently Executive Director of Construction for W. E Bowman Construction, he has spent the majority of his career focusing on healthcare construction. Over the course of his career Jerry has overseen 1.6 billion dollars of healthcare construction projects with tremendous success.

 

Jerry is a longtime member of both VSHE and ASHE. His participation provided the opportunity for Jerry to earn his Infection Control and Healthcare Construction Certifications in 2002 in a class taught by Deputy Executive Director of ASHE, Doug Erickson. Jerry’s grass-roots perspective has allowed him to become a true advocate of the healthcare industry, particularly whenever construction is involved. He has, and continues to, educate contractors on safe practices helping them to develop and implement healthcare specific safety programs within their respective organizations.

Ron Blackburn

2017-2018 VSHE Hampton Roads District Chair

​

Ron Blackburn has worked within Sentara Healthcare for the past 16 years. Ron's service to Sentara has included working in the HVAC Divisions of Sentara Bayside Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and Sentara Obici Hospital. Recently, Ron was promoted to Team Leader of HVAC Mechanical Services at Sentara Obici Hospital where he now oversees the entire operation of the central utility plant, and he is a licensed as a Master Tradesman in all facets of HVAC and gas-fitting. 

 

Ron's personal initiatives are all geared towards energy savings and customer service. Ron was instrumental in Sentara Obici Hospital receiving a "Pollution Prevention Partner" Award from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District for his efforts in converting the means of cooling boiler samples from potable water to piped-in chilled water. His effort reduced the hospital's water waste stream by more than one million gallons of water each year.  And, the greenhouse emissions reductions at Sentara Obici Hospital have been reduced by more than 6% in just two years.

 

Ron is an active member of ASHE, VSHE, and serves on the hospital's Infection Control Committee. Ron believes the best way to learn something about our work in facilities is to always reach out to the network of professionals and adopt “best practices” that can improve the patient's experience and promote staff efficiency.

Martin Misicko

2017-2018 VSHE Blue Ridge District Chair

​

Dr. Misicko joined Carilion as Vice President of Facilities in April 2016. In addition to his regular responsibilities on the Roanoke campus, he works with our construction and design team adding his expertise and varied experience to our healthcare projects. Prior to joining, Dr. Misicko worked for Roanoke County Public Schools as director of operations and construction since 2004. In that role he oversaw the construction, renovation and maintenance of the school district’s facilities; supervised transportation for 14,000 students; and directed all emergency response situations for both crises and weather emergencies. Under his direction, the school district employed geothermal heating and cooling systems at multiple locations that have significantly reduced annual utility expenses, and in 2014, the district’s first elementary school earned a Gold LEED-certified rating.

 

Before moving to Roanoke from Pittsburgh, he supervised engineers and oversaw projects as regional field director for Continental Vanguard; designed production strategies to maximize efficiency and software to estimate project costs as project manager at Amaral & Neumeyer; and began his career as a project engineer at NDP, Inc.

 

Dr. Misicko is a member of many professional and community organizations, including Virginia Educational Facility Planners, Blue Ridge Council of Teachers of Mathematics (former president), National & Virginia Councils of Supervisors of Mathematics (former director), District Chair of Virginia Society of Healthcare Engineers (VSHE), and has served on the Board of Rotary International and the YMCA. 

 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps; was an Eagle Scout, scoutmaster and executive board member for Boy Scouts of America; earned the Clean Valley Council Government Achievement Award in 2009; and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2015. Dr. Misicko lives in Troutville with his wife, Dr. Nancy Misicko, program director of Carilion Clinic’s Family Medicine Residency Program.

Scott Schwegal, BA, BS, CHEC

2017-2018 VSHE Central District Chair

 

Scott Schwegal is a results-driven facility management professional with extensive vendor management experience, and a focus on excellence in service delivery. He is currently the Director of Facilities Management and Plant Operations, as well as the Safety Officer at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, a 450,000 SF facility with a Level II Trauma Center. He is a newcomer to the healthcare world, with five years of experience. Prior to his healthcare career, he managed the maintenance operation for ExxonMobil and was responsible for over 400 Exxon locations.

 

Scott is originally from New Jersey and is married with two adult children.

 

Reginald Warren, CHFM, CHC

2017-2018 VSHE Young Professionals Chair

​

Reginald Warren currently is a Project Manager within the Construction Management Department at Riverside Health System (RHS).  He is responsible for renovations and alterations at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Riverside Behavioral Health Center, Riverside Rehabilitation Institute, and various outpatient facilities throughout the system.  Before joining the RHS team in February of 2013, Reggie filled other roles in project management and design engineering within the health care sector at FirstHealth of the Carolinas, and Vidant Health.

 

Mr. Warren is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) through the American Hospital Association (AHA).  In 2010 and 2006, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and an Associate’s Degree in Architectural Technology from Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC, respectively.

 

Since March 2004, Reggie has continuously been a dedicated member of the United States Armed Forces Reserve.  He initially enlisted into the United States Marine Reserve in March of 2004, and completed a tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008.  After nearly eight years in the USMCR, he transitioned to the North Carolina Army National Guard to continue serving in the logistics field.  In February of 2016, he then began serving in the United States Army Reserve at Ft. Eustis in an effort to train closer to his residency in Virginia.

Brandon Galbreath, CHC

2017-2018 VSHE IT Chair

Growing up Brandon was given very rich experiences in the construction industry. Thanks in part to his father who has a love for all things construction; this love was passed onto Brandon. After earning a Bachelors of Science degree in Construction Management from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Brandon began his career at Turner Construction in 2005. After several successful years with Turner Construction, Brandon was given the opportunity to serve as the Contract and Financial Manager for Riverside Health Systems.

Brandon is directly responsible for all the Construction Contract and Finances within the Riverside Health System. Brandon also serves as chairperson for the Facilities/Construction Environmental Services Value Analysis Team (VAT).

 

Brandon has a true passion for the construction industry. Through his service and years of experience, he looks forward to continuing his growth and journey within the health care construction management career field.

Belinda Currin, AIA, ACHA, CHFM, CHC, NCARB

Board Certified Healthcare Architect, Certified Healthcare Constructor

2017-2018 VSHE Conference Chair

Belinda is a dual degreed graduate of UNC-Charlotte, College of Architecture and a Board Certified Healthcare Architect per the American College of Healthcare Architects with over 22 years of experience, spending much of her career focusing on healthcare facility planning, programming, design, medical equipment/ systems coordination and construction. She has proven experience in all aspects of the design process, with a deep expertise in full design/ engineering and construction with a heavy emphasis in construction having worked in the construction field for almost a decade before entering professional practice. Her passion is being the link between the design team, the clinical users, medical equipment providers and the construction team while framing the process within or below the predetermined budget and schedule. Her value to your project’s process is a marked intense dedication to quality control and attention to detail, while providing a realistic approach to design, construction and their phasing coordination.

​

Belinda is a long standing, active member of VSHE and ASHE with her commitment to healthcare facility design and construction illustrated by achieving the CHFM and CHC designations as well as completed training in Infection Control Planning and Prevention. She believes that the healthcare facility is a “living and ever changing environment” with the understanding that patient centered design, efficient clinical functionality and understanding the components and maintenance of the infrastructure is a three legged stool in which each component depends on the other.

​

After almost 20 years working within major healthcare A/E design firms as a Certified Healthcare Architect, she forged ahead to begin her own woman owned small business healthcare architecture consulting firm in 2013, Currin Design Consulting, LLC, continuing to practice daily in both medical and behavioral healthcare as an owner’s advocate, performing peer reviews of ongoing design/ construction projects; a design pioneer in improving the patient experience and clinical environments through design, planning and programming as well as actively coordinating with construction trades in field condition problem solving, demonstrating flexibility and expedited solution development.

Lindsay Davis

2017-2018 VSHE Conference Co-Chair

 

Lindsay Davis is the Estimating Administrator at WE Bowman Construction in Richmond. Founded in 1970, W. E.
